Half-Hanniken

For a circle of couples, as many as wish to dance, all holding hands facing the center.

4 counts    Take four steps into the center of the circle (Double Up)

4 counts    Back up four steps to return to place (Double Back)

8 counts    Repeat the double up-double back figure

When you return to your place, drop hands and face your partner.

8 counts    Take both hands with your partner, and double up to meet right shoulders with them, then back to your place (Side Right)

8 counts    Keep holding both hands with your partner, and double up to meet left shoulders with them, then back to your place (Side Left)

Now, keep just your right hands together.

8 counts    Circle all the way around your partner, holding right hands, until you return to your spot (Arms Right)

8 counts    Switch hands, and holding left hands, circle 1 ½ times around your partner to the left, ending up in your partner’s place (Arms Left)

Everyone face the center of the circle and all take hands. You should have a new partner, and the whole dance repeats again from the doubles.

At the end of the dance, bow to your partner.

For a line of couples, longways, facing the top of the room

4 counts    For naught (to stand around and look beautiful)

4 counts    Bow or curtsey to your to your partner

4 counts    Take four small steps forward, towards the top of the room, rising slightly up on your toes on the fourth count (Pavane double forward)

2 counts    One step backwards, then rise on your toes (Pavane single back)

2 counts    Pavane single back. You should be close to where you started.

8 counts    Repeat the Pavane series (Double – single – single)

4 counts    Bow or curtsey to your to your partner

4 counts    Place right palms together and change places with a double (Palm right across). On the fourth count, in place of the rise, turn to face your partner again

4 counts    Bow or curtsey to your to your partner

4 counts    Palm left hands across, and turn to face your partner again

2 counts    Cross right foot over left foot, bringing left shoulder to center and touch left hands

2 counts    Reverse with left foot and hand (touchy-feely)

4 counts    Turn once over left shoulder

8 counts    Repeat touchy-feely and single turn

8 counts    Diamonds: both partners step out with your right foot into the center of the set, you should end up back to back with your partner. Next step with your right back into your partner’s spot.  Step out with your right again, ending up back to back with your partner, then step back with your right one last time to go into your original spot.

8 counts    Double towards your partner, on the fourth count, rise on your toes and

pivot around each other, then double back into their spot (Belly-up)

8 counts    Repeat diamonds

8 counts    Repeat Belly-up

8 counts    Touchy-feely and single turn

8 counts    Touchy-feely and single turn

Bow or curtsey to your partner

Hit and Miss

A square for two couples, with each square rotated 90 degrees from the set next to it.

Facing the other couple, holding inside hands

4 counts    Holding inside hands with your partner, take four steps towards the couple across from you (Double Up)

4 counts    Back up four steps to return to place (Double Back)

8 counts    Repeat double up and back

Chorus:

4 counts    Double up towards the other couple

4 counts    Take inside hands with the person across from you (your corner) and double out away from the set with them

4 counts    Turn around, taking inside hands again, and double back into the set with your corner. You should be facing your partner.

4 counts    Turn to face your corner, take inside hands with your partner, and double back (take small steps!)

12 counts    Square Hey: Face your corner, take right hands with them and change places. Now, turn and take left hands with your partner and pass. Turn to face your corner, and take right hands to pass them again. You should be back on the same side of the set from where you started, so take left hands with your partner and pass again to return home.

 

8 counts    Facing your partner, and double up to meet right shoulders with them, then back to your place (Side Right)

8 counts    Facing your corner, double up to meet left shoulders with them, then back to your place (Side Left)

28 counts    Repeat Chorus

8 counts    Circle all the way around your partner, holding right hands, until you return to your spot (Arms Right)

8 counts    Circle all the way around your corner, holding left hands, until you return to your spot (Arms Left)

28 counts    Repeat Chorus

Bow or curtsey to your partner at the end.
